Women's Tennis Loses 4-3 Battle to Division II Frostburg State

The Virginia Wesleyan women's tennis team (3-3, 1-1 ODAC) hosted Division II opponent, Frostburg State University, and fell 4-3 in a scrimmage contest.

Despite a 6-1 loss at #1 doubles, Meena Lennon and Lina Hackner battled to win in a tiebreaker over Ella Troxell and Femke Hofkamp. The Marlins won the third doubles by default to secure the doubles point.

The Marlins won at #6 singles by default, but Frostburg won back-to-back straight set singles matches at #4 and #3 over Lina Hackner and Meena Lennon respectively to level the score at 2-2.

Zoe Vliegen found herself down a set, but rallied from behind to gain a 5-4 advantage in the second set, but was unable to convert, losing the second set in tiebreaker fashion and giving Frostburg a 3-2 edge.

Leveling the score at 3-3 was Jette Hafermann, who dominated her opponent 6-1, 6-0 at #5.

The match came down to the top court of singles where Tuva Flink controlled the first set, winning it 6-3; but her opponent, Alyssa Kush fought back to win 3-6, 7-5, 1-0 (3).

Next, the Marlins will continue their spring break campaign with an ODAC match against Sweet Briar College on Friday, March 21 at 1 p.m.
