The Virginia Wesleyan men's tennis team (2-6, 1-1 ODAC) hosted Division II Frostburg State University for a scrimmage to kick off spring break.
At the #1 and #2 spots, Frostburg won 6-3 over
Sebastien Muller and
Hovo Madanyan and 6-4 over Rafael and
Carlos Rullan Zarraga to win the doubles point.
Tudor Vlad and
Frieso ter Schiphorst emerged victorious at #3, winning 7-5 over Noah Fisher and Jason Haley.
Rafael Rullan Zarraga fell to German Diaz 6-4, 6-2 at the second line of singles to stretch the Frostburg lead to 2-0.
Sebastien Muller was next to finish, narrowing the gap to 2-1, with a 6-2, 6-3 win at #4 singles against Matt Bolen.
Tudor Vlad battled at the top spot, saving multiple match points against Cole Alcala, but ended up falling 6-1, 7-5, putting Frostburg just one point away from victory.
Francis Cabaddu won the first set at #3 singles in tiebreaker fashion, but his opponent came back to win the second 6-3; the match was decided in a ten point tiebreaker in which Cabaddu dominated 10-1.
Tying the match at 3-3 was
Hovo Madanyan with a 6-3, 6-2 victory at #5; and clinching the match in straight sets was senior captain
Sainandan Challagundla to give VWU the 4-3 win.
The Marlins will host the University of Lynchburg on Saturday, March 22 at 2 p.m. to resume ODAC competition.
