The Virginia Wesleyan University men's lacrosse team (3-4) was defeated by non-conference opponent Wabash 9-2.
Jeremiah Madriaga did well winning 11-of-14 faceoffs, with seven ground balls.
Zack Tucker played the full 60 minutes, allowed nine goals, and made eight saves.
The first quarter saw early scoring from both teams, with Blake Stephens giving Wabash the lead at 7:04, followed by
Jackson Dinger's equalizer for Virginia Wesleyan at 4:55, assisted by
Jacob Carroll. However, Wabash regained the advantage just before the first quarter ended, putting the Little Giants up 2-1.
In the second quarter, Wabash continued to build on their lead, scoring twice, one on a man-up opportunity, making it 4-1 in favor of the Little Giants.
The third quarter saw Wabash pull away further with a quick goal to start the second half to make it 5-1. Virginia Wesleyan managed to get on the board again at 9:19 with a goal from
Parker Lucas, assisted by
George Psaltis, bringing the score to 5-2. However, Wabash responded with four unanswered goals in the final minutes of the quarter, to give Wabash an 8-2 lead heading into the final period.
The fourth quarter saw Wabash maintain their control, as Sorg added his third goal of the game at 11:09, unassisted, to seal the victory with a 9-2 final score.
