Men's Tennis Launches Spring Season in Opener at CNU

The Virginia Wesleyan men's tennis team faced no. 28 Christopher Newport University in their spring season opener. Matches were played indoors at the James River Country Club due to unfavorable weather conditions. 

The Captains won decisively at all three doubles positions to secure the doubles point, winning 6-4, 6-2, and 6-2 at positions #1-3. 

In singles play, Rafael Rullan Zarraga lost the first set in a tiebreaker and fought back to claim the second in the same fashion, but fell short in the third set match tiebreaker after earning match points. 

Tudor Vlad also had a close match at the top spot, in which he lost 7-6 (2), 7-6 (6) to Ashton Legum. 

Senior, Sainandan Challagundla, returned to the singles lineup for an impressive showing against Alex Seretis in the sixth position, losing 7-6 (3), 6-4. 

The Captains also overcame the Marlins in straight sets at singles spots #3-5 winning over Sebastien Muller, Francis Cabaddu, and Carlos Rullan Zarraga.

The Marlins competed well against their nationally ranked opponent. Next they will face Rhodes College on Saturday, February 15 in a neutral match in Newport News, Virginia.
