The Virginia Wesleyan University baseball team (2-0) defeated non-conference opponent St. Mary's College of Maryland 12-2.
Edgar Hardwood led the offense going 2-for-4 with a three-run home, and scored four runs,

Josh Goodrich hit well going 2-for-4 with a solo home run, and scored two runs.
Nick Beatty started the game pitching 2.0 innings, with two strikeouts, had two hits, and allowed one run and teammate
Zach Miller came in relief for the win and pitched 1.2 innings, with two strikeouts, and allowed two hits.
St. Mary's opened up the scoring in the first inning with a solo home run to lead 1-0. The Marlins responded in the bottom of the second,
Edgar Harwood got the offense going with a single up the middle, then
Nick Valentin singled to put runners on first and second.
Nick Sylvester singled through the right side to score Harwood from second and tie the game at 1-1.
Virginia Wesleyan took the lead in the second inning with a solo home run from
Josh Goodrich.
The third and fourth innings were scoreless for both teams. In the fifth inning, the Seahawks scored one run in the top of the fifth to tie the game at 2-2. VWU countered in the bottom of the fifth as Harwood and Bastiaans walked. Then, Valentin double to score Harwood from second,
Nick Sylvester flied out to center field to score Bastiaans from third to take a 4-2 lead.
The Marlins offense awoke in the sixth as
Ty James singled followed by a double from Nick Burton to score the pinch runner
Joey Leoni from first to lead 5-2.
Clay Clarke was walked to put runners on first and second, then, Harwood reached on a fielders choice to put runners on the corners. Harwood stole second and a wild pitch scored Burton.
John Bastiaans singled to score Harwood to increase their lead to 7-2.
Virginia Wesleyan kept up the pressure in the seventh, as they scored five more runs. Marcel Whitfield was hit by a pitch,
Joey Leoni double down the left field line to score Whitfield. Goodrich singled to put runners on the corners to force a pitching change. Burton was walked to load up the bases for Clarke who hit a sacrifice fly to right field scoring Leoni to lead 9-12. With runners at first and second,
Edgar Harwood hit a monster homer to left field to seal the 12-2 win over the Seahawks.
