Women's Basketball Falls to Salisbury

The Virginia Wesleyan University women's basketball team (5-18, 1-14 ODAC) was defeated by Salisbury 68-54. 

Keagan Schwab led the Marlins with 17 points shooting 7-for-14 from the field, and 3-for-8 from beyond the arc; grabbed three rebounds, one assist, one block, and two steals. Brianna Long scored 16 points shooting 5-for-9 from the field and 6-for-8 from the free throw line; tallied eight rebounds, one assist, and one steal. Bre Robinson registered 10 points shooting 3-for-4 from the field and 4-for-6 from the charity stripe; had one rebound, two assists, and one steal. 

Virginia Wesleyan came out on fire outscoring the host 9-2 in the first four minutes of play. The Marlins kept up the pressure and outscored the Seagulls 8-2 the rest of the first quarter to hold a commanding 17-4 lead. 

Salisbury improved in the second quarter and outscored VWU 9-8 in the first four minutes. However, the Seagulls' offense caught fire and went on a 17-3 run to take a 30-28 lead. The Marlins scored a jumper to tie the game at 30-30 heading into halftime. 

In the third quarter, the two teams duked it out with Salisbury outscoring Virginia Wesleyan 8-7 in the first five minutes of the quarter. A defensive effort in the remaining five minutes of the third quarter with the host holding a narrow 44-42 lead heading into the final frame. 

The Seagulls kept their momentum and outscored the Marlins 6-5 to take a 50-47 lead with 6:35 left in the game. Then, Salisbury's offense went on a 10-1 run over the next four minutes to lead 60-48. VWU started mounting a comeback, but the Seagulls kept pace and secured the 68-54  victory.
