The Virginia Wesleyan men's basketball team (18-5, 11-3 ODAC) won decisively over the Eagles of Bridgewater College by a score of 111-60. This ranks as the 6th most points scored in a game by the Marlins in program history. Starting center,
Waylo Wilson, was honored in celebration of senior day.
Omari DeVeaux led the Marlins with 19 points, shooting 5-for-7 from the field, 3-for-4 from three-point territory, and 6-for-6 from the free throw line; DeVeaux recorded one rebound, two assists, and two steals.
Khai Seargeant tallied 15 points, going 6-for-12 from the field, 1-for-3 from beyond the arc, and 2-for-2 from free throw line; he recorded three rebounds, one assist, and five steals.
Amari Moorer earned a double-double, scoring 14 points; he went 7-for-8 from the field, recorded 11 rebounds, five assists, and one block.
The Eagles scored two baskets in a row to start the game leading 4-0.
Omari DeVeaux scored from three-point territory to bring the score to 4-3, but Bridgewater quickly responded with a three of their own to lead 7-3. The Marlins outscored the visiting team 6-2 between 16:38 and 15:17 to level the score at 9-9. The Marlins continued to gain momentum and found their largest lead of the game so far as
Paul Anderson executed from three-point territory, putting the Marlins ahead 23-14.
Bridgewater scored a three with 10:01 remaining in the half to bridge the scoring gap to six, but the Marlins seized control with a 9-0 run to lead by 14 with 7:27 on the clock and continued their dominance for the remainder of the half.
Jeremiah Boateng made the final basket of the first half to put the Marlins in front of the Eagles 50-28.
The second half began with a three by Bridgewater, but VWU quickly took over, preventing the Eagles from scoring between 19:27 and 15:29 and gaining a 61-33 lead. VWU scored back-to-back dunks by
Jordan Watlington and
Miles Hancock respectively, claiming a 51 point lead. From 5:47 on, the Marlins were represented by the bench who outscored their opponents 14-11.
Next, the Marlins will travel to Randolph-Macon College on Wednesday, February 19 for a conference battle at 7:30 p.m.
