The Virginia Wesleyan men's basketball team (18-6, 11-4 ODAC) faced No. 4 Randolph-Macon in their second to last conference contest of the season.
Omari DeVeaux led the Marlins with 23 points, his season high. DeVeaux shot 6-for-12 from the field, 2-for-6 from the three-point range, and 9-for-10 from the free throw line; he made five rebounds and three assists.
The game was fast-paced from the start with
Amari Moorer first to score, and the beginning of the half remained close.
Omari DeVeaux made the first three-pointer of the night to give the Marlins a 7-6 edge. After two missed three-pointers from the Yellow Jackets,
Waylo Wilson scored a layup to put the Marlins ahead 9-6. With 14:53 on the clock, the home team finally converted from beyond the arc to tie the game at 9-9. The Marlins responded with a 5-0 scoring run to claim their largest lead of the game of 14-9, but the Yellow Jackets were quick to catch up, tying the game at 19-19 with 10:45 left in the half.
Randolph-Macon gained momentum, scoring nine straight points to take a 28-19 lead with 6:42 on the clock. Over the remainder of the half, the Yellow Jackets outscored VWU 16-6 to enter halftime with a 44-25 lead.
Khai Seargeant sunk a three to start the second half, bringing VWU 14 points within the home team; and the Marlins outscored the Yellow Jackets 5-2 between 18:42 and 17:03 to bridge the gap to 12. Randolph-Macon created a 7-3 run between 14:54 and 12:21 to extend their lead to 55-37. The Yellow Jackets found their largest lead of the game so far of 65-45 with 8:18 remaining in play, and the Marlins were unable to close in. Randolph-Macon won the contest by a score of 80-59.
