The Virginia Wesleyan University women's basketball team (5-16, 1-13) was defeated by Lynchburg 72-49.
Bre Robinson led the team with 17 points, shooting 6-for-12, and went 5-for-6 from the free throw line; she grabbed seven rebounds, one assist, and two steals.
Jaiden Hunter had eight points, shooting 4-for-10 from the field, and had one block, and one assist.
Keagan Schwab recorded eight points shooting 3-for-14 from the field; had five rebounds, one assist, one block, and two steals.
The Hornets scored first and jumped out to a 5-2 lead to start the game, but the Marlins responded with a 9-0 run to take an 11-5 lead. Lynchburg clawed back with a 5-0 run, but the Marlins held an 11-10 lead at the end of the first quarter.
VWU outscored the Hornets 4-2 to start the second to lead 16-12. However, Lynchburg went on an 11-5 run to take a 23-22 lead and went on to lead 27-25 at halftime.
The Marlins tied it up at 27-27 to start the third quarter, but the Hornets rallied with a 9-2 run to lead 36-29. Lynchburg extended their lead with a 10-5 run to lead 46-34 heading into the final frame.
Lynchburg kept the momentum in the fourth with a 12-4 to lead 58-38 with 6:08 left in the game. The Marlins responded with a 6-2 run to cut the lead to 60-44. The Hornets outscored the Marlins the rest of the quarter to seal the 72-49.
