Men's Basketball Eases Past Randolph College 96-72

The Virginia Wesleyan men's basketball team (16-4, 9-2 ODAC) bounced back after their midweek loss and defeated Randolph College by a score of 96-72. 

Omari DeVeuax led the offense with twenty points, going 7-for-11 from the field, 4-for-6 from three-point territory, and 2-for-2 from the free throw line; DeVeaux had two rebounds, five assists, and two steals. Right behind DeVeaux was Khai Seargeant with 19 points, who shot 4-for-6 from the field, 2-for-4 from beyond the arc, and 9-for-11 from the free throw line; Seargeant registered four rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Also key to the Marlin win was Waylo Wilson, who had 18 points; Wilson went 9-for-10 from the field and made three rebounds, two assists, and two blocks. 

The Marlins controlled the game from the start as they surged ahead with a 7-0 scoring run. Randolph scored their first basket of the night with 17:13 on the clock, but they were unable to gain momentum as Omari DeVeaux responded with a three-pointer to put the Marlins ahead 10-2. After a brief scoring drought between 16:50 and 15:37 and a free throw made by the WildCats, Virginia Wesleyan regained their scoring dominance as Paul Anderson sunk a three-pointer followed up by a steal and dunk by Amari Moorer, which put the Marlins ahead 15-3. Omari DeVeaux displayed his versatility in the 14th minute of the game with consecutive layups and a steal in between to put the Marlins up 19-5. 

Virginia Wesleyan excelled from the free-throw line and executed their layups to stretch their lead to twenty with 7:37 on the clock. With less than five minutes of play remaining in the first half, Waylo Wilson and Amari Moorer dominated the court with back-to-back dunks to lead 51-27. In the final four minutes of play, the WildCats remained on pace with the Marlins with both teams scoring 10 points. The Marlins entered halftime with a 61-37 lead. 

Randolph scored a layup to start the second half of play, and Khai Seargeant responded with a jumper, followed up with two free throws. The WildCats created a 7-0 scoring run to lessen the scoring gap to 19, but Demeir Pollard put an end to their momentum with a three-pointer to bring the score to 68-46 with 16:35 on the clock. The Marlins continued to outperform the visiting team, claiming their largest lead of the night of 32 points as Paul Anderson recorded his third three-pointer with 6:33 on the clock. VWU was represented by less experienced members of the team in the final minutes of play and held onto their lead, sealing the win by a score of 96-72.
