The Virginia Wesleyan University men's basketball team (16-5, 9-3 ODAC) lost to No. 5 Hampden-Sydney 66-47.
Waylo Wilson led the team with 12 points shooting 5-for-7 from the field and 2-for-4 from the free throw line; grabbed six rebounds, one block, and one steal.
Amari Moorer recorded a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds; shooting 5-for-12 from the field, had three assists, one block, and one steal.
TJ East had seven points shooting 3-for-3 from the field and 1-for-1 from beyond the arc, and had two rebounds.
The Tigers started the game with a three-point play on an and one to lead 3-0. The Marlins made the next two jumpers to lead 4-3, but Hampden-Sydney went on a 12-0 run to lead 15-4 at the 11:19 mark.
Virginia Wesleyan responded going on a 10-5 run over the next 2:30 to cut the lead to 20-14. HSC hit a layup to stop the Marlins' run and outscored VWU 13-10 the rest of the half to hold a 33-24 lead heading into halftime.
After the break, VWU went on a 4-1 run to cut the lead to 34-28, but Hampden-Sydney responded with a 6-0 run to extend the lead to 40-28. Over the next several minutes, the Tigers went on a 4-2 run to lead 44-30 at the 13:23 mark. However, Virginia Wesleyan's offense exploded going on a 10-0 run to claw their way back into the game with a 44-40 score with 8:38 left in the second half.
Hampden-Sydney responded with a 7-2 run to increase their lead to 51-42. The Tigers kept the momentum and went on a 13-2 run to lead 64-44 with 2:28 left in the game to seal the 66-47 win for the host.
