The Virginia Wesleyan University men's basketball team (5-1) defeated Dickinson College on day two of the CNU Holiday INNvitational by a score of 74-56.
Omari DeVeaux led the Marlins with 20 points, shooting 7-for-14 from the field, 3-for-7 from three-point range, and a perfect 3-for-3 from the free throw line, adding three rebounds, two assists, and three steals.
Amari Moorer contributed 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting, including 2-of-3 from deep, along with nine rebounds, three assists, and two blocks.
Virginia Wesleyan jumped out to an early 8-2 lead over Dickinson, fueled by layups from
Miles Hancock and
Omari DeVeaux. The Marlins extended their advantage with a 18-0 run, making the score 20-2. Both teams went back and fourth for the duration first half. However, the Marlins continued to hold at least a 14 point lead.
Dickinson opened the second half with a quick 3-0 run to cut the Marlins' lead to 42-31. Virginia Wesleyan responded with a 12-0 run, sparked by layups from Amari Moorer and Omari DeVeaux and a three-pointer from Paul Anderson, to push the lead to 58-31 with 13:00 remaining. Over the next several minutes, Dickinson made several runs, including a 6-3 stretch, but the Marlins answered with scoring from Velmar, DeVeaux, and Jones to maintain a comfortable lead.
By the end of the half, VWU had built a 72-51 advantage. Virginia Wesleyan closed the game on a 2-0 run, with a jumper from Tykie Jones sealing a 74-56 victory over Dickinson.
