The Marlins started the game well, jumping out to a 5-1 lead, then went on to go on a 6-2 run to extend their lead to 11-4. The Yellow Jackets outscored the Marlins to bring the score to 14-8. Virginia Wesleyan countered with a 6-0 run to take a 20-8 lead. VWU outscored the Yellow-Jackets 5-4 the rest of the set to take set one 25-12.
The Yellow Jackets responded in the third set, building a 5-3 lead early in the second set. Virginia Wesleyan rallied and went on a 7-2 run to take a 10-7 lead. The Marlins followed that with a 4-1 run to increase their lead to 14-8. RMC countered and put together a 5-3 run to cut the lead to 17-13. However, the Marlins outscored the Yellow Jackets 8-2 to claim set two 25-15.
In the third set, Virginia Wesleyan built a solid 7-1 lead, but RMC came back with a 4-2 run to cut the lead to 9-5. The Marlins went on a 3-1 run to increase their lead to 12-6, but Randolph-Macon went on a 3-0 run to cut the lead to 12-9. Over the next eight points, each team scored four to bring the score to 16-13. The Marlins offense erupted to a 7-0 run to hold a strong 23-13 lead and went on to win the third set 25-15.
