Women’s Tennis Battles in 5-2 Loss to Washington College

The Virginia Wesleyan women's tennis team showed strong fight on the road but fell 5-2 to Washington College on Saturday afternoon at the Schottland Tennis Center.

The Shorewomen secured the doubles point with wins at all three positions. Tuva Flink and Zoë Vliegen put together solid rallies at No. 1 doubles but came up short 6-4, while Meena Lennon and Jette Dammeier dropped their No. 2 doubles match by the same score. In the tightest battle of the round, Lexi Hackbirth and Jette Hafermann pushed their No. 3 doubles match to the limit before falling 7-5.

In singles, Virginia Wesleyan picked up two impressive victories. At the top of the lineup, Tuva Flink earned a hard-fought win at No. 1 singles, defeating Soleil Namunyola 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 to secure her first victory of the season. Jette Hafermann added another point for the Marlins at No. 3 singles, rolling to a 6-1, 6-4 win over Jayda Browne.

Several other matches were closely contested. At No. 6 singles, Lexi Hackbirth battled deep into tiebreaks before narrowly falling 7-6 (6), 7-6 (2). Meena Lennon and Zoë Vliegen also played competitive sets at Nos. 5 and 2, respectively, before dropping their matches in straight sets.
