The Virginia Wesleyan University field hockey team (5-7, ODAC 2-2) earned a hard-fought 2–1 road victory over Sweet Briar College (2-9, ODAC 0-5) on Saturday afternoon at Thayer Field.

Landry Meyer continued her stellar season, scoring both goals for the Marlins to lift them to their second conference win. Meyer opened the scoring in the second quarter with a penalty stroke goal, her sixth of the year, before adding the game-winner early in the third quarter assisted by
Samantha Middleton.
Sweet Briar managed to even the match late in the second quarter, but Virginia Wesleyan's defense, anchored by goalkeeper
DJ Holsclaw, held firm in the second half. Holsclaw played all 60 minutes and recorded five saves to preserve the victory.
The Marlins out shot the Vixens 19–9, including nine shots on goal, and controlled play for much of the match. With the win, Virginia Wesleyan improves to 2–2 in ODAC play and builds momentum heading into the final stretch of the season.
Virginia Wesleyan returns home for its next match up on Wednesday, October 22 at 5:00 PM, when the Marlins host University of Lynchburg at Birdsong Field.
