Virginia Wesleyan Blanks Bridgewater in 3-0 Win

The Virginia Wesleyan University women's volleyball team (21-1, 7-0 ODAC) defeated conference opponent Bridgewater 3-0.

The Marlins' offense was spearheaded by Madi Schmidt, who had nine kills, two service aces, three block assists, and 10 digs. Hannah Smith registered eight kills, two service aces, one block assist, and 12 digs. Alexis Shaw had a night with nine kills, with a .318 hitting percentage, three block assists, and two digs, and teammate Breana Brooks recorded eight kills, with a .467 hitting percentage, five block assists, and one dig.

The Malrins started well in the first set, jumping out to a 5-2 lead, but the Eagles fought back and cut the score to 9-7. However, Virginia Wesleyan responded with a 5-1 run to lead 14-8. Bridgewater didn't give up and countered with a 4-1 run to bring the score to 15-12. VWU rallied with an 8-3 run to extend their lead to 23-15 and went on to win the set 25-16.

In set two, the Eagles started well, building a 6-3 lead, before the Marlins went on a 6-3 run to tie the set at 9-9. Bridgewater went on a 3-1 run to take a 12-10 lead, but VWU went on an 8-3 run to hold an 18-15 lead. The Eagles didn't give up and went on a 3-1 run to cut the lead to 19-18. However, the Marlins outscored the Eagles 6-2 the rest of the set to win 25-20.

In the third set, Bridgewater held a 6-4 lead, but the Marlins responded with a huge 5-0 run to lead 9-6. The two teams traded points until the Eagles went on a 6-2 run to lead 15-13. Virginia Wesleyan's offense erupted with a 10-1 run to take a 23-16 lead. The Eagles had a late 4-0 surge, but the Marlins went on to win the third set 25-21.
