The Virginia Wesleyan women's soccer team (9-3-2) dropped a tough non-conference match up Wednesday night, falling 2–0 to No. 13 Christopher Newport (10-1-2) at Captains Field.
The Captains scored twice late in the first half to take a 2–0 advantage that held for the remainder of the match. The Marlins tightened up defensively in the second half and created several looks on goal but couldn't break through against the nationally ranked opponent.
Goalkeepers
Allie Greco and
Riley Keefe combined for eight saves on the night, with Greco playing the majority of the match and Keefe closing out the final minutes in net. The pair helped keep CNU off the board in the second half, limiting opportunities.
Virginia Wesleyan finished with seven total shots, including two on goal, and one corner kick. The Marlins held the Captains scoreless in the second half despite being out shot 23–7 overall.
Virginia Wesleyan hits the road on Saturday, Oct. 18 at 6:00 PM for an ODAC match up against Guilford College in Greensboro, N.C.
