The Virginia Wesleyan women's team had a strong day in the pool Chowan, winning 485-294.
Virginia Wesleyan dominated the 100 and 200 yard backstroke, where Emery Garza took first place and broke a school record in the 200 with a time of 2:14.19, and in the 100 backstroke had a time of 1:01.98, and Suzanna Fernandez placed second in both the 100 and 200 backstroke with times of 2:26.86 and 1:07.56.
The Marlins opened the meet with a win in the 200-yard medley relay as the team of Suzanna Fernandez, Lana Macchi, Lora Young, and Emery Garza finished first with a time of 1:59.97. The team of Erin Beaudry, Abigail Carlson, Ally Peck, and Sarah Czapp also earned third place in 2:02.34.
In distance events, Lora Young placed second in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 12:54.30. In the 200-yard freestyle, Sarah Czapp finished second in 2:14.93, followed closely by Ally Peck in third at 2:19.58 and Ella Boal in fourth at 2:31.46.
In the 100-yard breaststroke, Lana Macchi swam an exhibition time of 1:12.55.
Czapp picked up another win for the Marlins in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 27.62. Teammates Mia Battistic (28.80) and Ella Boal (32.00) placed fourth and fifth, respectively. In the 100-yard freestyle, Macchi led the way for VWU in second place at 58.69, followed by Young in third (1:02.65), Battistic in fourth (1:03.06), and Boal in fifth (1:10.13).
The Marlins swept the top two spots in the 200-yard backstroke as Garza claimed first with a 2:14.19 and Fernandez followed in second at 2:26.86. Abigail Carlson secured a win in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:48.38.
In the 500-yard freestyle, Fernandez finished third with a 6:05.83 while Peck followed in fourth at 6:18.80. Young added another victory for the Marlins in the 100-yard butterfly, touching first in 1:09.55. Beaudry earned a first-place finish as well, winning the 400-yard individual medley in 5:33.76.
The Marlins closed out the meet with a win in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The quartet of Fernandez, Carlson, Czapp, and Garza took first in 1:48.40, while the team of Young, Battistic, Peck, and Boal placed third in 1:57.86.
