The Virginia Wesleyan University women's soccer team (9-2-2, 4-1-1 ODAC) continued their strong ODAC campaign with a commanding 6-0 victory over Averett University (1-9-1, 0-5-0 ODAC) at Foster Field at the Tassos Paphitis Soccer Complex in Virginia Beach.

The Marlins controlled possession from the opening whistle. Virginia Wesleyan broke through in the 27th minute when Alaina Alston scored to give the Marlins a 1-0 advantage. Despite numerous chances, including five corner kicks and 23 first-half shots, VWU carried just a one-goal lead into the break.

Virginia Wesleyan erupted offensively after halftime. Shyenne Diaz struck early in the 45th minute to double the lead, followed by a composed finish from Alexis Manfredi in the 67th minute off an assist from Keira Mulvihill. Mulvihill added a goal of her own in the 75th minute, assisted by Megan Setlak, before Kaylyn Seitz and Courtney Mills each found the back of the net in the closing minutes to cap the scoring surge.

The Marlins out shot Averett 44-0, including 27 shots on goal, and earned 14 corner kicks while holding the Cougars without a single attempt or corner opportunity. Averett goalkeeper Emily Smith recorded 21 saves, while Virginia Wesleyan's defense and goalkeepers faced no shots to post the team's eighth shutout of the season.

Virginia Wesleyan returns to action on Wednesday, October 15, at 7:30 p.m., when the Marlins travel to Newport News, Va. to face Christopher Newport University in non-conference play.
