Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Men’s Tennis Falls 5-2 at Washington and Lee, Win 6-1 Over SVU

The Virginia Wesleyan University men's tennis team opened its ODAC season on the road, falling 5-2 to Washington and Lee on Saturday afternoon in Lexington, Virginia.

The Marlins started the match with doubles play but were unable to secure the opening point. At No. 1 doubles, Jed Platts and Sebastien Muller dropped a 6-2 decision to Henry Imorde and Sanjheev Rao. The No. 2 duo of Ayaan Choudhary and Simon Oster battled in a close contest but came up just short, 7-5, against Ryan Good and Pearce Lane. In the No. 3 match, Tudor Vlad and Frieso ter Schiphorst fell 6-3 to Sahil Arora and Harrison Silver as Washington and Lee swept the doubles portion.

In singles play, Virginia Wesleyan earned two victories. At No. 3 singles, Platts defeated Rao in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5, to claim the Marlins' first point of the day. Muller followed with another win at No. 4 singles, outlasting Arora in a three-set battle, 6-4, 1-6, 7-6 (7-2).

Avaan Choudhary competed strongly at the top spot but came up short 7-5, 6-1 against Todd Cannaliato. Vlad forced a deciding set at No. 2 singles before falling 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 to Lane. Oster dropped a tight three-set match at No. 5 singles, 4-6, 6-2, 6-4, while Anas Benbrahim fell 7-6 (7-4), 1-6, 6-3 at the No. 6 position.
 

The Virginia Wesleyan men's tennis team earned a strong 6-1 victory over Southern Virginia in their second match of the day.

The Marlins claimed two of the three doubles matches to take the opening point. Natan Aerts and Timothy Gitomirski teamed up for a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles, while Sava Kmekic and Frieso Schiphorst earned a win by forfeit at No. 3. Josh Buckland and Olaf Van Der Stam fought hard at the top spot but came up short, 6-4.

In singles play, Virginia Wesleyan dominated the lineup. Buckland earned a straight-sets victory at No. 1 singles, winning 6-4, 7-5. Aerts followed with a 6-3, 7-5 win at No. 3, and Van Der Stam secured another point with a 7-5, 6-1 result at the No. 4 position.

Kmekic added to the Marlins' tally with a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 5 singles, while Schiphorst picked up a forfeit win at No. 6. Gitomirski battled through a three-set match at No. 2 but ultimately fell 7-5, 5-7, 10-7 in a tight contest.
