Men's Swimming Defeats Chowan for First Time In School History, 552-374

The Virginia Wesleyan men's team also put together several standout swims against Chowan, winning 552-374 for the first time in program history.

The Marlins went two-three-four in the 100-yard breaststroke, led by Long in second who broke a school record with a time of 1:01.99, followed by Brayden Canterberry in fourth (1:12.82) and Shaffer in fifth (1:13.70). Saeger earned the Marlins' first men's event win of the day, taking first in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:14.35.

In the 200-yard medley relay, the team of Mason Pifer, Cael Long, Tommy Saeger, and Brandon Temple finished second in 1:42.24, while the group of Gavin Wehr, Reilly Shaffer, Jacen Fletter, and Logan Schohn earned third in 1:54.02.

Matthew Thomas led the Marlins in the 1000-yard freestyle with a second-place time of 11:19.50, followed by Camden Holmes in third at 11:55.83. Temple took second in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:55.98, with Schohn finishing third in 2:08.00.

In the 100-yard backstroke, Pifer placed second with a time of 1:00.35.

In the 50-yard freestyle, Thomas placed fourth in 23.92, Wehr finished fifth in 24.23, Fletter came in seventh at 26.25, and Canterberry placed eighth in 26.69. Temple earned a win for VWU in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 52.85, while Shaffer placed third in 55.33 and Schohn took fourth in 57.77.

Pifer claimed first place in the 200-yard backstroke, finishing in 2:15.23, while Holmes came in third at 2:23.56. Long added a runner-up finish in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:18.73. Thomas, Schohn, and Holmes swept the next event for VWU, finishing second (5:21.09), third (5:40.22), and fourth (5:50.21) respectively in the 500-yard freestyle.

Saeger continued his strong performance with a second-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly at 57.13, followed by Wehr in third (1:07.52) and Fletter in fifth (1:11.05). Canterberry closed out individual events with a victory in the 400-yard individual medley, finishing in 5:56.50.

The men wrapped up the day with a second-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay as Saeger, Long, Temple, and Pifer clocked a 1:33.04. The team of Shaffer, Canterberry, Wehr, and Thomas took third in 1:39.58.
