The Marlins offense was led by
Omari DeVeaux with 16 points shooting 5-for-9 from the field, 4-for-6 from three-point territory, and 2-for-3 from the free throw line; with three assists, one rebound, and one steal.
Khai Seargeant had 14 points shooting 5-for-9 from the field and 4-for-7 from beyond the arc and had five rebounds, and teammate
Amari Moorer tallied 11 points shooting 5-for-9 from the field and 1-for-2 from deep; he grabbed two rebounds, four assists, two steals, and one block.
At the start of the game, the teams were evenly matched, with Lynchburg holding a 4-2 early in the half. Until
Khai Seargeant hit a three that sparked a 14-5 run over the next five minutes for Virginia Wesleyan to take a 16-9 lead. The Marlins outscored the Hornets 5-4 over the next two minutes to bring the score to 21-13.
Midway through the half, the Marlins were not done yet and a three from
Amari Moorer sparked an 18-0 run over the next six minutes to put VWU up 39-13 with 5:13 left in the half. Virginia Wesleyan kept the momentum the rest of the half outscoring Lynchburg 21-12 to head into the break with a 60-25 lead.
The Marlins took their foot off the gas offensively but played solid defense and outscored Lynchburg 37-34 in the second half to seal the 97-59 win over conference opponent Lynchburg.
