The Virginia Wesleyan men's basketball team (14-3, 7-1 ODAC) overcame the Shenandoah Hornets, winning 88-62.
Five Marlins hit double-digits; and the team made 16 three-pointers, which is the third most made in a single game in program history and the most threes made in a game since December 8, 2022 against Salisbury when they made 18 in a game.
Omari DeVeaux led the Marlins with 18 points, going 6-for-10 from the field and 6-for-9 from three-point territory; he had one rebound and four assists.
Paul Anderson scored 12 points, going 3-for-4 from the field, 3-for-4 from beyond the arc, and 4-for-5 from the free throw line; he grabbed two rebounds, one assist, and one steal.
Waylo Wilson contributed 12 points, going 6-for-9 from the field and registered four rebounds and three blocks. Freshmen
Demeir Pollard and
TJ East also had outstanding performances, scoring 12 and 11 points respectively.
The Hornets started the game with a three-pointer, but the Marlins found back-to-back threes of their own scored by
Omari DeVeaux and
Paul Anderson to bring the score to 6-3. Shenandoah reversed the momentum with a 6-0 run to lead 9-6 with 15:52 left on the clock. VWU responded with their own 6-0 run to lead 15-9.
Shenandoah outscored the Marlins 12-7 between 13:01 and 7:34 to bring themselves within a point, but the Hornets were unable to capitalize. VWU continued their solid play for the remainder of the half, and
Malcolm Velmar solidifed the Marlin lead with a three-pointer to put the Marlins up 38-29 going into halftime.
Waylo Wilson began the second half with a layup to extend the Marlin lead to 40-29. The Marlins continued their precision from the three-point range, making nine in the second half alone. The Hornets were unable to put a stop to Virginia Wesleyan's brilliant play, and the Marlins went on to win 88-62.
