The Virginia Wesleyan University University field hockey team (2-1) dominated Southern Virginia in an 8-0 game for their second win in a row.
Lauren Hedspeth led the team with three goals, two assists, and four shots on goal,
Katherine Druiett had one goal, two assists, and 11 shots on goal, and
Berkley Miller improved her record to 2-0 this season, played 60 minutes, and had one save.
The Marlins got on the front foot early, scoring in the first three minutes of the game.
Lauren Hedspeth scored with a feed from
Katherine Druiett. Two minutes later,
Isabelle Rogers scored the first goal of her collegiate career off an assist from Druiett to put VWU up 2-0.
Landry Meyer scored her fourth goal of the season to put the Marlins up 3-0 going into the half. Virginia Wesleyan outshot the Knights 19-2 in the first half with 10 shots on goal, and had a 6-0 advantage in penalty corners.
In the third quarter,
Mary Ruffin found the back of the net off a beautifully executed penalty corner set up by Hedspeth to increase the Marlins lead to 4-0.
VWU did not let up in the fourth quarter, scoring four goals to seal the 8-0 win over Southern Virginia. Virginia Wesleyan outshot the Knights 48-3, with 31 shots on target, and had a 19-1 advantage in penalty corners.
