The Virginia Wesleyan University women's soccer team (1-3-3, 1-0 ODAC) defeated conference opponent Bridgewater.
A big win for the Marlins as they begin ODAC play for the 2024 season. VWU created the better scoring chances in the first half outshooting the Eagles 10-6 with four shots on target compared to the host's two, and recorded six corners versus the Eagles five. Despite the stat advantage, the Marlins were unable to find the back of the net.
In the second half, Virginia Wesleyan kept the momentum and their efforts finally paid off in the 82nd minute as Shyanne Diaz found some space down the right side and passed it to her teammate Alaina Alson who scored the game-winning goal to seal the win for the Marlins.
