The Virginia Wesleyan University field hockey team (5-1) defeated Lancaster Bible 5-0.
Lauren Hedspeth led the team with two goals, and one assist, on five shots,
Dani Poulsen scored one goal and had one assist on two shots, and
Berkley Miller started in net for the Marlins and got the win and played 45 minutes.
The Marlins were on from the start, as they outshot the Chargers 16-0 in the first half with seven shots on goal.
Dani Poulsen scored the first goal of the game at the 10:27 mark with a great pass across the goal from
Clair Wagner. Despite Virginia Wesleyan's dominance, were unable to score a second goal in the first 30 minutes of play.
After the break,
Landry Meyer scored with an assist from
Lauren Hedspeth to put the Marlins up 2-0. The Marlins capitalized again just before the end of the quarter off a penalty corner.
Dani Poulsen shot from the top of the circle and Hedspeth was able to get the ball and slot it into the back of the net to take a 3-0 game before the final quarter.
In the fourth quarter,
Lauren Hedspeth scored a goal one minute into the quarter to extend their lead to 4-0. With less than three minutes in the game, VWU scored off a penalty corner as
Katherine Druiett took a shot and
Olivia Winslow deflected it past the keeper into the net to seal the 5-0 win over the Chargers.
