No. 12 Virginia Wesleyan Keep Clean Sheet in Tie with No. 5 CNU

The Virginia Wesleyan women's soccer team tied with the Captains of Christopher Newport University 0-0 in their first competition of the season. 

CNU started the first half strong on the offense with ten shots and four corner kicks. The Marlins' defense was up to the task anchored by senior goalkeeper Ashleigh Lockard who registered two saves in the first half. 

The Marlins entered the second period with an explosive offense as Janessa Lowe tallied a shot on goal within the first minute of the half. Alexis Miller followed suit minutes later but was unable to beat CNU's goalkeeper. The defense was strong on both ends with neither team able to score. Ashleigh Lockard defended the goal well, making a total of four saves for Virginia Wesleyan.
