The Virginia Wesleyan University women's basketball team (4-3, 0-1 ODAC) defeated William Peace 73-41.
The Marlins were led by
Bre Robinson on offense as she had 14 points, shooting 7-for-9 from the field; grabbed seven rebounds, had three steals, and had one assist.
Jada Norman had 10 points shooting 4-for-7 from the field and 2-for-4 from beyond the arc; recorded two assists and one steal.
Jaiden Hunter and
Brianna Long each played 20 minutes and scored eight points. Hunter shot 4-for-12 from the field; with eight rebounds, three steals, and two assists. Long shot 3-for-8 from the field, 2-for-3 from the free throw line; with nine rebounds, two steals, and two assists.
The Marlins had a great night shooting 40.5 percent as a team, had 44 points in the paint, 23 second chance points, and 28 points off turnovers, while the Pacers shot 28.0 percent from the field, 14 points in the paint, 10 second chance points, and seven points off turnovers.
The Pacers started hot going on a 7-0 run in the first three minutes of the game, but the Marlins rallied and went on a 10-0 run shooting 4-for-8 from the field, making one three, and had two steals to fuel their run. Virginia Wesleyan continued its dominance on the court and outscored William Peace 9-2 the rest of the quarter to hold a 19-9 lead heading into the second quarter.
VWU was on fire and went on a 10-2 run to start the second quarter to extend their lead to 29-11 with 6:36 left in the half. Over the next four minutes the Pacers fought back and went on a 7-0 run to cut the Marlins lead to 29-18. The Marlins scored the next four points and held a 33-18 score at halftime.
After the break, the Marlins built their lead with a 6-1 run to lead 39-19 with 8:19 left in the third quarter. The Pacers fought back going on a 5-0 to bring the score to 39-24. VWU's offense caught fire in the third and went on a 13-0 run to lead 52-24. The Marlins dominated the third quarter and outscored William Peace 23-9 to lead 56-27 heading into the final frame.
The Marlins took their foot off the gas in the fourth quarter as the Pacers outscored VWU 17-14, but Virginia Wesleyan got the 73-41 win over William Peace.
