The 3rd seeded Virginia Wesleyan women's soccer team (9-5-3, 8-2 ODAC) won 3-2 against 6th seeded Shenandoah University in their ODAC quarterfinal match-up.
The Marlins took an early lead less than five minutes into play as
Alaina Alston tapped the ball into the net off a corner kick by
Stephanie Koblish.
In the 15th minute of the game,
Emma Shuey's perfect pass to
Shyenne Diaz resulted in a header goal to put the Marlins up 2-0.
It looked as though the Marlins were headed for a shutout as
Kalyn Byrd scored the third goal for the Marlins in the 67th minute of the game, but the Hornets began to apply more pressure midway through the second half.
Following Byrd's play, the Hornets put in two goals to position themselves within one point, but the Marlins were able to hold onto their lead.
Marlin goalkeeper,
Allie Greco, played all ninety minutes, making two saves and letting in two goals.
Next, the Marlins face 2nd seeded University of Lynchburg for semifinal competition in Lynchburg, Virginia on Friday at 3:30 p.m.
