The Virginia Wesleyan University field hockey team (12-6, 4-4 ODAC) was defeated by Washington & Lee 7-0 in the quarterfinals of the ODAC Championship Tournament.
Berkley Miller was credited with the loss, and played 45 minutes in net, allowed six goals but made six saves in the game.
DJ Holsclaw played 15 minutes allowed one goal and recorded zero saves.
It was an even battle in the first quarter, as the Generals had a 3-0 shot advantage and had two corners compared to the Marlins zero, but kept the score at 0-0 after 15 minutes of play.
Washington & Lee scored three goals in the third quarter to lead 3-0 at halftime. After the break, WLU scored three more goals on seven shots to lead 6-0. Adding one goal in the fourth quarter to seal the 7-0 win.
The Marlins had a great season achieving double-digit wins for the first time since 2006 and reaching 12 wins for the first time since 2005 where VWU had a 13-6 record. This 2024 team reached the ODAC Championship tournament for the first time since 2016, which was also the last time the Marlins went .500 in conference play. This group has been nicknamed "Program Changers" for their impressive 2024 season. The Marlins currently await the opponent for their participation in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC).
