The Virginia Wesleyan women's soccer team (8-5-3, 8-2 ODAC) finished their regular season with a 4-2 win over Roanoke College.
Kaylyn Seitz opened the scoring for the Marlins in the 12th minute of play to take a 1-0 lead. Later in the half Virginia Wesleyan scored on a corner as
Kalyn Byrd scored a header off a nice cross from
Grayson Yeager to lead 2-0 over the Maroons. VWU held a healthy 2-0 lead at halftime.
Roanoke kept working and was rewarded in the 61st minute as they scored a goal to cut the lead to 2-1. The Maroons now had the momentum and three minutes later were awarded a penalty kick to tie the game at 2-2.
The Marlins fought back as
Emma Shuey hit an amazing shot from outside the 18-yard box that beat the keeper over the top to take a 3-2 lead. Then, at the 86:00 mark
Alexis Manfredi scored the fourth goal for the Marlins to seal the 4-2 win and the #3 seed in the ODAC Championship Tournament.
The #3 Seed Women's Soccer team will host #6 Seed Shenandoah on Tuesday, November 5 for the quarterfinals of the ODAC Championship Tournament.
