The Virginia Wesleyan women's soccer team (2-4-3) lost to the University of Lynchburg 2-0.
Allie Greco recorded three saves in goal for the Marlins. Starters, Alex Ortega and Janessa Lowe, each tallied a shot on goal.
The Marlins saw multiple chances to score in the first half. In the 12th minute, Lowe saw a breakaway opportunity that resulted in a shot on goal. Lynchburg's goalie, Meredith Bowers, made an impressive save to keep the Marlins from scoring.
Eight minutes later, the Hornet midfielder Madelyn Boyce broke the Marlins' defense and scored the first goal of the night.
The Marlins controlled possession in the second half and had three corners but could not capitalize. The Hornets secured their victory with a second goal scored by Leilianis Irigoyen.
The Marlins are now 2-1 in conference play. Next, VWU will face Sweet Briar College on Saturday, October 12, for senior day.
