The Virginia Wesleyan University women's soccer team (3-4-3, 3-1 ODAC) defeated Sweet Briar 9-1.
Before the game, the Women's Soccer Program honored its 12-member senior class composed of:
Emma Acanfora,
Alex Agee,
Krista Anderson,
Kalyn Byrd,
Miranda Conroy,
Kaitlyn Duswalt,
Tori Green,
Adrianna Gunther,
Camille Jernigan,
Ashleigh Lockard,
Breacain McClenahan, and
Alexis Miller.
Emma Acanfora started strong scoring in the second minute of play to give the Marlins a 1-0 lead. Then, in the seventh minute,
Kalyn Byrd found the back of the net to bring the score to 2-0. Three seniors scored the first three goals for the Marlins as
Breacain McClenahan scored a breakaway goal to put VWU up 3-0 in the first 15 minutes of play.
Emma Nguyen linked up with
Alaina Alston to put the Marlins up 4-0.
In the second half, substitute
Autumn Horst scored a great goal to put Virginia Wesleyan up 5-0. Sweet Briar found the back of the net to cut the Marlins lead to 5-1.
Courtney Mills scored off a nice cross from
Sydney Queen, and
Charlotte Gantt scored a goal with an assist from
Autumn Horst to give Virginia Wesleyan a 7-1 lead.
Emma Toomey scored with an assist from
Sydney Queen. Lastly,
Courtney Mills scored to put VWU up 9-1.
