The Virginia Wesleyan women's soccer team (5-4-3, 5-1 ODAC) improved their winning streak to three in 3-1 win over Averett University.
Shyenne Diaz carried her momentum from the last game against Shenandoah, scoring two goals for the second game in a row; and
Breacain McClenahan scored the third goal of the game.
Adrianna Gunther's clean free kick from the midfield found Alaina Alson who then passed the ball to
Shyenne Diaz. Demonstrating exceptional footwork, Diaz dribbled through the Averett defenders to score the first goal of the game just over five minutes into the game. Minutes later, Diaz picked up her second goal of the night to give the Marlins a comfortable lead.
The Marlins secured the win with a third goal by
Breacain McClenahan who won the ball deep in the Cougars territory to convert the breakaway goal against the goalie.
It looked to be a shut out, but Averett scored their lone goal of the day at the end of the second half to bring the score to 3-1.
The Marlins will face Guilford College at home this upcoming Wednesday at 4 p.m.
