The Virginia Wesleyan University field hockey team (9-1, 1-0 ODAC) defeated conference opponent Sweet Briar 5-0. With their 9-1 record, this is the most wins for the Marlins Field Hockey team since 2006.
Regan Wells led the team with one goal and one assist for her first collegiate goal,
Ashlyn Boykin did well with one goal and one assist, and
Berkley Miller played 60 minutes in net, with one save in her second complete shutout of the season.
The two teams fought hard to start the game but were locked at 0-0 for most of the first quarter until VWU's
Isabelle Rogers scored with an assist by
Dani Poulsen to put the Marlins up 1-0.
In the second quarter, the Marlins' offense ramped up the pressure and outshot the Vixens 9-0 with five corners leading to a goal from reigning ODAC Offensive Player of the Week
Landry Meyer to go up 2-0 early in the quarter. Then, in the 22nd minute of play,
Lauren Hedspeth found the back of the net with an assist from
Regan Wells to put Virginia Wesleyan up 3-0 at halftime.
Ashlyn Boykin scored in the 37th minute of play with an assist from
Katherine Druiett.
Regan Wells capped off the day with a goal at the 46:23 mark with an assist from Boykin to seal the 5-0 win over Sweet Briar.
