Box Score The Virginia Wesleyan Men's Soccer team (5-0) won against William Peace 4-2 in a contested match.
Nate Mitchell scored two goals for the Marlins to give them the 4-2 win,
Zach Bittler scored the second goal, and
Alex Moody converted from the penalty spot to lead the offense.
Freshman
Ben Haynes started in goal and recorded the win for the Marlins.
The match was tightly contested in the first half with both teams battling aggressively throughout the beginning.
The Pacers struck first in the 32nd minute with a goal putting them up 1-0.
The Pacers then went down a player due to a red card given in the 39th minute.
Alex Moody then took advantage of a penalty kick to tie the game up 1-1 in the 44th minute.
Just coming out of halftime, in the 45th minute, the Pacers played a through ball into the box which was placed into the net putting the Pacer up 2-1.
The Marlins were not scared to and answered right back with a goal scored by
Zach Bittler with an assist to
Josh Condit in the 48th minute putting the Marlins back in the game 2-2.
In the 80th minute,
Nate Mitchell dribbled past the defense and into the box, then he placed a ball in the back of the net to put the Marlins up 3-2.
Finally in the 82nd minute,
Ilan Mejia played a ball into the right side of the box which was finished by
Nate Mitchell bringing the score to 4-2.
This victory gives Head Coach
Shane Kohler an undefeated 5-0 record on the young season. The Marlins will hope to continue their winning ways tomorrow when they host North Carolina Wesleyan College at 5:00 p.m. at Tassos Paphites Soccer Complex.
