SALISBURY, Md. | The Marlins women's tennis team took the road to Salisbury University to face their first Division III opponent of the spring 2023 season. The matches took place at Salisbury University's indoor tennis complex which houses three hard courts.
Alexa Brewster and Anna Rogers claimed an 8-5 win at the top spot in doubles against the Seagulls pair of Katherine Tamesis and Olivia Hall. The #2 and #3 matches were lost by the Marlins 4-8 and 2-8 respectively.
Brewster carried her doubles domination into singles, dropping just 3 games to her opponent Katherine Tamesis with a 6-1 6-2 win.
At the #2 spot Christine Zalameda rallied past her opponent, Elizabeth Christine, in a grueling three setter. The final score was 7-5, 4-6, 6-3.
Anna Rogers, Shannon Lewes, Kristina Abrams, and Maya Brown fought hard, but ultimately lost in straight sets at the #3-6 singles spots, awarding the Seagulls a 6-3 victory overall.
Coach Bickford was encouraged by her players' competitive performances and looks forward to building confidence as the season progresses. Next up, the Marlins will face Hampton University in a scrimmage on Sunday, February 26.
