NORFOLK, Va.  |  The Marlins men's and women's tennis teams competed against the Division I Norfolk State Spartans Wednesday afternoon. The scrimmage, which took place at Norfolk State was played in a Division I format. In DI scoring, only one point is granted in doubles to the team that wins best of three individual sets, which are each played to 6. 

The Marlins men's team started strong with a win at the third spot in doubles. Francis Cabbadu and Jonas Juetz claimed a tight 7-5 victory over the Norfolk State pair of Ibrahim Abbas and Roosevelt Brown III. Norfolk State seized wins at the top two spots in doubles, which secured them the doubles point. 

Stefan Zrnic, a junior transfer student, claimed his first win as a Marlin at the #6 singles position, dominating with a 6-0 6-0 victory over Brown. 

The women's team fought hard in their first duel of the spring season. Senior doubles pair Christine Zalameda and Anna Rogers returned to the courts with the Marlins, playing at the number one spot and coming away with a game.  

The Marlins women lost 2-5, winning by default at the #5 and #6 singles spots due to injured players on the Norfolk State team. The top four singles matches were lost in straight sets. Despite the lopsided scores, the women fought hard against such a strong opponent. This scrimmage will serve as momentum into the team's match on Saturday at Salisbury University.
