VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- The Virginia Wesleyan men's basketball team fell to the Maroons of Roanoke College 80-74 on Saturday afternoon in Salem, VA. The Marlins were led by
Omari DeVeaux with 20 points while
Jordan Crump was close behind with 14 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Marlins opened the game on a 13-2 run through the first four minutes of the game with
Eric Rowland scoring five points and
Amarion Wilson adding four. VWU continued to hold a double-digit lead until the 12:39 mark when RC scored five consecutive points to close the gap to six points, 20-14, with 12 minutes to play. The Maroons continued to cut the Marlins lead pulling within two points, 31-29 (3:19), but VWU on an 11-6 run to take a seven-point lead, 42-35, into halftime.
VWU reclaimed a double-digit lead 49-39 by the 16:42, but RC went on a 16-6 run to knot the score at 55 all with 11 and a half minutes remaining. The Maroons took a slim two-point lead, before a three-pointer by
Jordan Crump gave the Marlins a 60-59 lead. The teams traded the lead three more times before Roanoke took the lead with 7:50 remaining and held on throughout the remainder of the game despite Virginia Wesleyan pulling within three points within the last minute of the game.

Virginia Wesleyan returns to the court again on Tuesday, February 21, when they host Shenandoah University in the ODAC Tournament play-in game. The Marlins head into the tournament as the No. 2 seed while the Hornets are No. 10. The winner of Tuesday's game will advance to the ODAC quarterfinals to face off against the Tigers of Hampden-Sydney.
