VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The Virginia Wesleyan men's and women's track and field teams showed well on Friday, January 20, when they hosted the 2023 Marlin Invitational. Nearly every Marlin that competed set a new personal record in their respective events.
INSIDE THE RESULTS
The quote "PRs all day today at the Marlins Invitational" was used by the athletes and coaches of the Virginia Wesleyan track and field teams. Twenty-seven PRs fell between the men's and the women's team at the Marlin Invitational.
Freshman
Julia Hathaway with a PR in the Women's 60m with a time of 7.97. That time is second in the ODAC Conference and is also the second-best time in school history. Hathaway also set a PR in the women's 200M dash with a time of 26.91 as well as in the triple jump with a distance of 10.35M.
Casey Stedman joined Hathaway with a PR in the Women's 200M with a time of 27.85.
Sophomore
Amia Barnes earned a PR in the Women's 800m with a time 2:32.82.
Yadeja Britton collected a collegiate PR in the Women's High Jump with a height of 1.50M. Britton also PR'ed in the women's 60M hurdles with a time of 9.61.
In the women's shot put,
Ke'Juanna Smith threw a PR of 6.52M, while on the men's side
Casey Lang threw a PR of 9.31M and Opey Kareem-Ojo threw a PR of 8.34M.
Isaiah Bullock set a new PR in the men's triple jump with a mark 0.70M farther than his previous best of 12.94M with a new mark of 13.65M.
Julius Jacobs and
Sam Edwards drop both their times in the Men's 60m. JJ ran a PR of 7.30 and Sam ran a PR of 7.49!!
In the men's 200M dash we had multiple PR's with
Jordan Hall leading the way running a 22.77,
Izaiah Pritchett running a 23.24,
Domenic Crosswell running a 23.43,
Isaiah Bullock running a 23.39, and
Jonathan Moon running a 23.67.
In the men's 400M dash
Domenic Crosswell and
Izaiah Pritchett both PR'ed with respective times of 51.49 and 52.10. Crosswell's time moves him up to 2nd in the ODAC, while Pritchett's time moves him up to 5th.
Ja'Marri Henderson set a big PR in the men's 60M hurdles with a time of 8.95. That moved him up to 5th in the ODAC Conference.
In the men's weight throw saw sophomore
Jalen Davis throw a PR of 11.89M, and freshman
Carlos Lamoso throw a PR of 11.96M.
The men's 4x400 meter relay team ran a time of 3:24.88, which is three seconds off the school record and the 31st fastest time in all of Division 3.
