FIRST HALF
- The teams came out in the first 35 minutes battling back and forth for control of the ball and to be the first to break onto the scoreboard.
- Virginia Wesleyan managed to score first as Angel Garcia connected with the back of the net on a penalty kick after he was fouled inside the penalty box with nine minutes remaining in the opening half.
- About four minutes later, Garcia added his second goal of the game after corralling a ball off a free kick that hit the Eagle's defensive wall.
- The Marlins added their third goal of the match in the final two minutes of the opening half as Ilan Mejia launched a rocket over the head of the Eagle keeper from about 30 yards out off a pass from Noah Fowler.
SECOND HALF
- Neither team scored in the second half despite the Eagles taking six shots including a penalty kick that went wide right.
KEY STATS
- Angel Garcia scored a pair of goals of the match to assist the Marlins in the win.
- Ilan Mejia recorded his first goal of the season to put VWU up 3-0.
- Griffin Potter played all 90 minutes in goal making five stops for the clean sheet.
