Box Score VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The Virginia Wesleyan University women's volleyball team defeated the Cougars of Averett University in three sets on Saturday afternoon in ODAC competition at TowneBank Arena in Virginia Beach, VA.

MATCH RECAP
The first set began with the two teams sitting neck and neck at three all before the Marlins went on a 6-1 run taking a 9-4. The Cougars pulled within four points, 14-10, but the Marlins scored four in a row to reclaim an eight-point lead, 18-10. Averett score three points during the remainder of the first set as Virginia Wesleyan closed out the opening frame with six consecutive points winning 25-13.
Virginia Wesleyan took an early 10-4 lead in the second set with eight kills, a Morgan Ludovici service ace, and a Taylor Paquette block. Averett pulled within two points, 10-8, but the Marlins pulled further ahead 16-9 after scoring five points in a row off of three Cougar errors and a pair of Marlin kills. VWU held AU to a seven-point, or more, deficit as the Marlins won set two 25-15.
VWU started the third set scoring the first seven points off of three kills, three Cougar errors, and a Haley Sutton service ace. The Marlins took an 11-point lead, 19-7, after a 12-7 run with eight points coming from kills. Averett closed the gap to single digits, 20-11 and 24-15, before VWU recorded the final point to win set three 25-15.
