GENEVA, Ohio - Geni Roberts of Virginia Wesleyan University men's track and field team finished as the national runner up in the men's triple jump at the 2022 Outdoor National Championship Meet on Saturday afternoon at the Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
Geni Roberts, who has had an outstanding junior season, claimed his second National Runner Up finish of the year after claiming a record breaking jump in the men's triple jump at the NCAA Outdoor National Championship Meet.
He is accompanied by Marissa Coombs '17, as the highest placing Marlins at the NCAA Outdoor National Championship Meet with a runner up finish in the men's triple jump.
Roberts, who hasn't jumped much this spring to nurse his ankle, started off with a 13.53M jump in his first attempt. After the field looped back around, with his second attempt Roberts jumped a distance of a lifetime hitting a 15.16M mark to take the lead among the first flight of jumpers. He followed with a third jump, also above 15M, jumping 15.11M.
Roberts advance to the final round of jumps sitting second behind Will Ross from Illinois College who landed a mark of 15.31M in flight two of the preliminary round of jumps. Roberts' final three jumps came in at 14.84M, 15.13M, and 13.74M as the junior claimed the second place finish and a National Runner Up title.
The Ridgely, Maryland natives' jump (15.16M) was 0.43M further than his career personal best, and school record, of 14.73M set at the NCAA Championship Meet last season in Greensboro, NC.
