Box Score HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Virginia - The Marlins of Virginia Wesleyan defeated the Tigers of Hampden-Sydney College on Tuesday afternoon in a midweek ODAC match-up in Hampden-Sydney, VA. VWU scored nine runs against the Tigers in the 9-3 victory.

The Marlins got on the scoreboard first in the top of the first inning as they posted three runs. After Trent Hanchey got hit by a pitch and stole second base, he and Matt Sinko both came home following a blast by Sinko over the left center field wall for a two RBI home run. John Bastiaans was hit by a pitch to reach and moved to third on a Jake Ness double down the left line. Bastiaans came home on a Ronaldo Del Duca ground out to the second base to score the run.
The Tigers answered with a solo run in the bottom half of the inning to put the score at 3-1, but Virginia Wesleyan added two more in the top of the second to go up 5-1. With Garrett Lyons and Sam Kasprow on the bases, Sinko hit a ball to the short stop who committed an error while fielding the ball that allowed the two Marlins to score on the play.
Neither team scored in the third or fourth innings, while Hampden-Sydney added a run in the bottom of the fifth to put the score at 5-2. VWU responded in the top of the sixth with two runs, going up 7-2, as a Jaelen Hines triple to center field scored Lyons for one run, while Hines came home on a wild pitch.
HSC scored a single run in the bottom of the sixth to cut VWU's lead to only four runs. The Marlins answered in the top of the seventh with a pair of runs claiming a 9-3 lead, that they held on to for the remainder of the game. Sinko scored on a fielders choice during Del Duca's at-bat, while Bastiaans scored on a Lyons sac fly to right field.
Ryan Bitter started the game throwing 4.2 innings giving up two runs on five hits with a strike out and a walk. Ian Brady finished the game throwing the remaining 4.1 innings during which he gave up one run on four hits with two strikeouts to collect the win.
