Box Score FAYETTEVILLE, North Carolina - The Marlins of Virginia Wesleyan defeated the Monarchs of Methodist University 5-2 on Tuesday afternoon in a nonconference baseball game in Fayetteville, NC.

The Marlins got on the scoreboard first with a single run in the top of the first inning. After the three leadoff batters singled to reach and load the bases, catcher Matt Sinko hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score Jaelen Hines.
VWU added another three runs in the top of the second to take a 4-0 lead. Connor Hall started things off with a triple to right center and was sent home by Thomas Crandall who grounded out to the shortstop. Virginia Wesleyan loaded the bases for the second time in the game and a single through the left side by Garrett Lyons score Hines, for the second time, and Ronaldo Del Duca.
The Monarchs held the Marlins off the board in the third and fourth innings while adding two runs of their own in the bottom half of the third putting the score at 4-2.
The Marlins scored one final run in the fifth inning as Matt Culbert came home on a Hall double to left center field. VWU left five runners on the bags over the remaining four innings and held on to the lead to claim the victory.
- Garrett lYons drove in two of the teams five RBI.
- Trent Hanchey and Connor Hall both recorded a pair of hits.
- Jaelen Hines scored twice.
- Connor Mock pitched four innings giving up the two runs on three hits while striking out two and walking three.
- Albert Clark struck out three batters in his four innings on the mound and earned the win.
- Ian Brady collected his fourth save of the season coming in to pitch the final inning giving up just two hits.

Virginia Wesleyan returns to action tomorrow Wednesday, March 16, when they head down to Rocky Mount, NC for a midweek nonconference contest against the North Carolina Wesleyan Battling Bishops. First pitch in the battle of the Wesleyan's is set for 2 PM.
