HOW IT HAPPENED
After Hollins opened the game with the first basket, the Marlins went on an 8-2 run to lead 8-4 by the 6:26 mark of the first quarter. In the next two minutes, HU scored 10 points taking a 14-11 lead (4:12), and closed out the opening frame with a 5-2 run to lead 19-13 after the first ten minutes.
Hollins and Virginia Wesleyan traded baskets through the opening seven minutes but by the 3:02 mark a three-pointer for Hollins put HU up by 10 points, 27-17. Both teams added three more points each to their respective tallies as Hollins led 30-20 at the halftime break.
The Marlins used the entire third quarter to chip away at Hollins lead tying the score at 34 all with 1:32 on the clock as
Sarah Ellis made a fastbreak layup after stealing the ball and driving down the quart. The following free throw by Ellis gave the Marlins their first lead since the opening half as VWU took a 35-34 lead into the final frame.
Hollins came as close as one point, 37-36 (7:38), in the fourth quarter, but Virginia Wesleyan pulled away only giving up four more points the remainder of the game while scoring 13 of their own to come from behind and in 50-40.

Sarah Ellis led the team with 10 rebounds with Williams adding nine and

- VWU held HU to just four points in the third quarter and six in the fourth for ten points in the entire second half.
- The win over Hollins was Virginia Wesleyan's first ODAC conference win since the 2020-21 season when the teams played a shortened and condensed season due to COVID-19.
- The 13 points from Norman is a career-high for the sophomore, while the 12 points from Collier is the third time this season the sophomore has posted a dozen points in a game.
