The Pacers took an early lead in set one going up 4-2 before the Marlins came back and evened the score up at five all. VWU pulled ahead slightly, 8-6, following three consecutive kills, but WPU came back to take the lead 11-10. Virginia Wesleyan responded by putting down four more consecutive kills to go up 14-11, but William Peace did not back down as they pulled within one, 15-14, following a 3-1 run. The Marlins scored three more kills in a row to open up a four-point lead, 18-14, however, the Pacers closed that advantage knotting the score at 18 all. An Abbey Clayton service run pushed the Marlins up by five, 23-18, and two final kills from Morgan Ludovici helped VWU claim set one 25-19.
William Peace started the second set off with five straight points, however, the Marlins answered with six unanswered of their own to take a 6-5 lead. WPU evened the score at nine all after VWU went ahead 9-6. Virginia Wesleyan opened up a five-point advantage, 15-10, capped off by kills from Taylor Paquette and Breana Brooks. The Pacers pulled within two, 15-13, but that was the closest they got the remainder of the set as the Marlins took a six-point lead, 19-13, and held strong winning set two, 25-19.
After the third set began with the teams trading points one, two, and three, the Pacers took a 6-3 lead following three consecutive points. The Marlins responded by scoring four in a row taking a 7-6 lead, but the Pacers reclaimed the lead 9-8. The two teams evened the score up at 11 all before Virginia Wesleyan point down four in a row, going up 15-11. William Peace pulled within two trailing 19-17, but a 5-0 run by the Marlins put the home team within a point of match point, 24-17. WPU got in two more points before the set concluded with VWU winning set three 25-19 on a Pacer service ace.

Virginia Wesleyan is back in action on Saturday morning Oct. 8, when they host the Captains of Christopher Newport University and the Saints from Marymount University for a tri-match at TowneBank Arena. First serve between VWU and CNU is set for 11 AM. The Captains and Saints will play at 1 PM in a neutral game, with the Marlins and Saints wrapping up action at 3 PM.
