Box Score VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The Virginia Wesleyan men's soccer team defeated the Eagles of Bridgewater College 2-1 on Wednesday evening at the Tassos Paphites Soccer Complex in Virginia Beach, VA.
Everett McCloskey and
Nate Mitchell scored the two Marlin goals securing the Marlins opportunity to host an ODAC quarterfinal match for the Men's Soccer Championship Tournament starting Saturday.

FIRST HALF
The teams opened the match with 20-plus minutes of running up and down the field feeling out the other team's pace of play. Virginia Wesleyan broke onto the scoreboard in the 29th minute as
Everett McCloskey scored on a sharp-angle shot from the right of the box after
Ryan Taing crossed the ball over for the assist. Neither team scored the remainder of the first half as the Marlins entered the break with a 1-0 lead.
SECOND HALF
The teams came out of the break with urgency as Bridgewater was eager to find an equalizer while Virginia Wesleyan needed to find an assurance goal. The Eagles were the first to score in the second half knotting the score at one goal each in the 69th minute as BC controlled the first thirty minutes of the period. The Marlins took 20 minutes to set up a counter-attack as
Nate Mitchell scored the game-winning goal in the 88th minute following a throw-in from
Seamus Nicholson that was headed to Mitchell from
Zach Bittler. The goal with less than two minutes left helped secure the 2-1 win for the Marlins, who are now positioned to host an ODAC quarterfinal match on Saturday evening.
