The first set started with a back-and-forth run through the first eight serves as the teams sat tied at 4-4. The Marlins went up 6-4 before the Eagles came back taking an 8-6 lead. Virginia Wesleyan evened the score at 10 all and the teams sat tied through the 13th point for each team before Bridgewater went on a 6-0 run taking a 19-13 lead. VWU responded with its own 7-0 run pulling ahead by one, 20-19. BC went on a 4-1 run taking a 23-21 lead and closed the set out with two of the last three points winning 25-22.
Bridgewater carried some of their momentum from set one into set two opening the frame on a 5-1 run. The Eagles continued their run going ahead 11-4. VWU closed the gap to three points, 11-8, and fought back to even the score at 14 all following a 6-3 run spurred by Becca Hallingstad's service run. The Eagles broke up the Marlins' run of five points before VWU continued on a 6-0 run taking a 20-15 lead. Virginia Wesleyan scored five of the last four points to win set two, 25-19.
After the Eagles scored the first point of the third set, the Marlins went on a 6-0 run to take a 6-1 lead. Bridgewater came back on an 8-3 run of their own to knot the score at nine all. The teams would trade points back and forth until they were even at 22 all. Virginia Wesleyan held on, in the end, to score the final three points winning set three 25-22.
The teams started the fourth set even at five all after the opening services. The Marlins took the advantage following a 7-1 run going ahead 12-6. Bridgewater climbed back within two, 15-13, but a four-point run by Virginia Wesleyan put the visiting team up 19-13. BC put two points down after a timeout, but VWU closed out the match on a 6-2 run to win set four 25-17 and the match in four sets.
