FIRST HALF
- After 15 minutes of the two teams battling back and forth, the Marlins struck scoring in the 18th minute off a goal from Nate Mitchell. Sophomore wing Everett McCloskey played a ball forward to Mitchell who sent it into the back of the net putting VWU up 1-0.
- Neither team scored the remainder of the first quarter despite Lynchburg taking four shots and the Marlins two.
SECOND HALF
- After the halftime break, both teams came out with urgency, the Hornets needing to find a goal and the Marlins wanting to extend their lead.
- Lynchburg found the equalizing goal in the 67th minute off a free kick pass into the box for the Hornet attacker to send the ball into the back of the goal.
- Fifteen minutes passed by before the next goal was scored, as Lynchburg's Mega scored the go-ahead goal putting the Hornets in the lead 2-1.
- The Marlins tried to even the score up but ran out of time as the Hornets held on to the 2-1 lead for the win.
